I love this crap. Click the link below and take the quiz. Here are my results:What American accent do you have? (Best version so far) Northeastern Most people don't know it but this is actually what dictionaries are based on. If you don't believe me, pick up any American dictionary and look up "source" and "sauce" and you'll see they are written with the same vowel pronunciation. |

I scored so high on "Northeast" that I hit Nova Scotia. ;-)
I'm pretty all-encompassing. :)
"You have a Northern accent. That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for."
I'm same as Matt. Twenty years in upstate NY combined with twenty years in southern CA and I sound like I'm from Detroit? Who knew? :)
MIDLAND: ("Midland" is not necessarily the same thing as "Midwest") The default, lowest-common-denominator American accent that newscasters try to imitate. Since it's a neutral accent, just because you have a Midland accent doesn't mean you're from the Midland."
I actually grew up as a Navy brat, so it makes sense that I developed the standard American dialect. Wow, I shoulda gone after that degree in Broadcasting when I had the chance.
As a Marine brat, I scored the same as red7eric. Funny, too, since I've only spent 3 months in one of those states.
Here are my results:

I guess since I'm also a USMC brat (and moved all around), I just ended up with the "generalized" accent.
