Young Republicans
You may have noticed much discussion on the comment section last night as to whether or not Republicans or Democrats truly have the interests of gay Americans at heart. As I said, I think the voting records of both parties speak for themselves, but just to be somewhat "fair and balanced" I'd like to report that perhaps there is hope for the future when hopefully gay rights will no longer be an issue. From the Jackson Hole Star Tribune , an articled on 27 year old Republican State Representative Dan Zwonitzer says:
Zwonitzer, R-Cheyenne, spoke out in a legislative committee against a measure that would have allowed Wyoming to deny recognition of gay marriages granted by other states or countries...Zwonitzer told the House Rules Committee on Feb. 22 that he needed to publicly oppose the measure -- even if it cost him his seat -- because he believed that was the right thing to do. He told the committee that gay rights were the civil rights struggle of his generation."I will tell my children that when this debate went on, I stood up for basic rights for people," he said.

Yes, both the Dems & the GOP are crazy to think they "deserve" the gay vote. The only party that doesn't try to pander to the GLBT community while simultaneously selling us down the river is the Libertarian Party.
Michael--
Glad you posted a comment on my American Idol post. My hits have gone crazy from a technorati link to my "Kellie Pickler" tag! I went back in and modified the post a bit and added "Carrie Underwood" and "Antonella Barba" tags so that should spike them even more!
You'll have to let me know if you get a lot of hits coming over from your link! :)

Oh, and in the Dem/Rep debate, we can't lose site of the fact that, according to exit polls, 20-25% of self-identifying GLBT folks voted for W in 2004. Without those votes, he may have lost...all those boys down in FTL and South Beach!
I wish we'd all just get together and create a major civil unrest - and get it all over with! I'm so tired of waiting for my government to do it for me. Because they won't and they really shouldn't. As this is a fundamental right, not a political issue. We should have never allowed them to do this to us. But we did, and it's our fault. The day we allowed the courts to turn it back to the states to decide - was the day we should have been rioting like the 60's. It's laudable that Zwonitzer made this statement. Thanks for finding it.
It almost make you wanna move to his district and live. Until you remember that it's freaking Wyoming.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. ;)
Im not too sure who is the best political party to represent gay rights in America but in New Zealand it tends to be The Labour Party which is the left of centre party. Also The Green Party are keen supporters too.
We also have two political parties such as the christian United Future Party and New Zealand First who are totally against gay rights.
